Foundation Center Philanthropy IN/Sight

Philanthropy In/SightŪ is the Foundation Center's data visualization platform for global philanthropy. The Center developed this interactive mapping tool for grantmakers, policymakers, researchers, academics, and others interested in the impact of philanthropy around the world today. Philanthropy In/Sight combines the Center's rich data on grantmakers and their grants with familiar Google maps to tell the story of philanthropy through compelling visual portraits.

It reveals patterns of giving, funding relationships, areas where philanthropy has made an impact, and areas where opportunities exist to fill critical needs. With Philanthropy In/Sight, maps can be customized in various ways to: Plot the locations of grantmakers and grant recipients and view detailed information about their activities and grants awarded and received View aggregated grantmaker and grant data Overlay grantmaker and grant data with demographic, socio-economic, and other data Philanthropy In/Sight consists of two unique mapping tools, enabling users to map either grantmakers or grants.

When mapping grantmakers, Philanthropy In/Sight is fed by the Foundation Center's database of information on the full universe of over 103,000 U.S. foundations and grantmaking public charities and a growing number of non-U.S. grantmakers; when mapping grants, Philanthropy In/Sight is fed by the Foundation Center's database of details on more than 2.3 million grants awarded around the world by approximately 25,000 U.S. grantmakers and a growing number of non-U.S. grantmakers to over 188,000 recipients. These same databases power Foundation Directory Online, the Foundation Center's industry-leading prospect research tool for grantseekers.
