Why did you decide to read this book? Did a friend suggest it? Did it have an interesting cover?:
A couple of months back I saw this book in a fifth grade teacher's room. She happened to be my math teacher, so I saw the cover of the book every single day for about a week. I had heard people talking about it and I wanted to give it a try. I found the book in my school library.
What is the story about?/What happened in the story?:
This book is about an underground city named Ember. There is a girl namaed Lina and a boy named Doon. Every year the twelve year olds of the community get assingned jobs. Trading jobs is allowed. Lina and Doon happen to trade jobs. Lina is a messenger and Doon works in the pipeworks under the city. The city of Ember is lit up with lights, but the lights are begining to flicker, and blackouts are becoming common. Lina and Doon have to find a way to save the city before they fall into the darkness forever.
Why did you like this story? or Why did you not like this story?:
I adored this story. It is breath taking and at times sad or extremely happy. I couldn't put it down!
Other thoughts or feelings about this story? Anything else to add?:
This book is a lot like the book, The Giver, where people get assigned jobs and live in a different type of world.
