First in the Southern gothic YA series about a girl from a family of witches and the boy drawn toward her. If you are looking to replace Twilight with something else, this could be it.... (February 13)
Another adaptation of Stephen King's first novel that he admittedly threw in the trashcan once. (October 18)
This is the second book in The Hunger Games trilogy (the third book, Mockingjay, will be split into two movies, the first of which will come out in 2014). If you don't know what The Hunger Games is, start with the first book (November 22)
The first in the Mortal Instruments YA fantasy series about the Shadowhunters, a group of teen warriors who hunt and kill demons. (August 23)
Long awaited adaptation of the first book in the series of Orson Scott Card sci-fi novels that focus on a young Ender, a genius among those chosen to participate in military training games to defend Earth from aliens who have attacked and almost destroyed humanity. (November 1)
Richard Stark (aka Donald E. Westlake)'s no-nonsense thief, Parker, has been depicted in film before (see Point Blank, Made in USA, Payback), but never directly by name. This film, starring Jason Statham, is supposed to be based on the 19th Parker thriller that started with The Hunter. (January 25)
Non-fiction narrative about the formation of a secret Los Angeles police unit formed in 1946 to take on Mickey Cohen and the Mob. (January 11)
First published for free as a webserial online, the author, Jason Pargin (the editor of Cracked.com), has built up a cult following for this dark horror comedy about a drug called Soy Sauce, monsters from other dimensions, and two dudes you wouldn't want to bet on saving the world. (January 25)
The comic book of the same name returns for more from the amateur costumed heroes. (August 16)
Joss Whedon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Marvel's The Avengers) apparently filmed most of this modern set, black-and-white Shakespeare adaptation in his own house and backyard over a 12 day "vacation". (June 21)
Spike Lee takes on this Japanese manga revenge-thriller series that was originally produced as an acclaimed South Korean film in 2003. (October 11)
This corporate espionage suspense-thriller, from the author of High Crimes, concerns a young executive forced to spy for his boss at a rival tech-business. (August 16)
This adaptation, to be titled The Seventh Son, is based on the first book in the Last Apprentice Juvenile/YA fantasy series that centers on a boy training to take over the job of local Spook to rid the town of evil spirits and witches. (October 18)
Nicholas Sparks wrote this book. A lot of his other books are already movies. (February 15)
Second film by Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller of Miller's noir graphic novel series. (October 4)
Baz Luhrmann (Moulin Rouge, Romeo + Juliet) does F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel of 1920s Jazz-age New York...in 3-D. (May 10)
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug is the second movie (of three) of the same first and only book. (December 13)
George Clooney brings this true story to the screen of those who worked during World War II to save European works of art from being seized and/or destroyed by Nazi Germany. (December 20)
A young, successful Muslim-American changes his perspective on the United States after 9/11. (April 24)
This is the second story in the Percy Jackson & The Olympians series that follows The Lightning Thief. (August 16)
Frozen, the upcoming Disney animated picture, is based on the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale. Note: The library has several different illustrated versions to choose from. (November 27)
The film features this member of the X-Men in these first solo stories set in Japan. (July 26)
Technically, this Disney movie is not based on a book. However, it is supposed to be a sort-of prequel to this book, which was, of course, adapted into The Wizard of Oz. (March 8)
The Zombie apocalypse is upon us and these are the stories of some of the survivors (one of which appears to be Brad Pitt). The audiobook production is worth checking out too. (June 21)
This collection contains "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty", American cartoonist James Thurber's classic tale of the mild-mannered man who lives out life through a series of eloborate daydreams. The original film starred Danny Kaye. The new incarnation stars Ben Stiller. (December 25)
