Write a review of the book, including plot points, if you wish:
When Esperanza's wealthy father dies, her life permanently changes. Her father, she realizes, has left the house to Esperanza and her mother but the land was left to her uncles. When one uncle proposes marriage to Esperanza's mother and she denies, there are a series of "tragedies" and they have to leave Mexico and go to America to keep the uncles from hurting them any more than they have already. Esperanza has to learn to accept new living conditions and not to judge by wealth.
