ImageGrasshopper Jungle by Andrew Smith is the weirdest book I've ever read, and that's awesome. It's the story of Austin Szerba - a teenage boy trapped in the smallest, most boring town in Iowa. He's struggling with his identity and how he fits into the world, while also being trapped between his feelings for his girlfriend, Shannon, and his best friend, Robby.

Through a series of connected, unlikely events, Austin and Robby release a deadly plague upon mankind. A plague that, when contracted, incubates inside a host until, at it's peak, it results in a 6 foot tall praying mantis hatching out of the human host. A 6 foot tall praying mantis that is almost impossible to kill.

Austin finds himself with a whole new set of problems to deal with, while still being completely uncertain of who he is or who he wants to be. Grasshopper Jungle is a well written, unique story with a ridiculous twist that will keep readers guessing to the very end. Perfect for fans of science fiction, coming of age stories, monsters, and insanity!

HAPPY READING!
