Arts Alliance of Greater Bloomington

Description: 

The Arts Alliance of Greater Bloomington maintains an Artist Directory & promotes local arts with a unified voice.

The AAGB is an association of artists, art organizations, and arts advocates dedicated to furthering arts of every type in our area by providing a forum for communication, encouragement, and action. It aims to be a collective and unified voice for the arts in all their diversity to improve the general condition of artists and their organizations. Through this collective action the Alliance seeks to reinforce the vitality of the Bloomington area as a center for the arts for our citizens and a vibrant destination for visitors.

Bloomington Area Music (BAM)

Bloomington Area Music provides support for the Bloomington, Indiana music community through advocacy, networking and education. Books Plus Book Discussion Group

Description: 

Books Plus is an once-a-month discussion group which meets at the library to talk about a wide range of books and issues. Books and other media, both fiction and nonfiction, are the springboards for discussing new trends, social issues, genres, best sellers, foreign authors, etc. Each month, the group focuses on one or more books (chosen in advance). Center for the Study of History and Memory

Description: 

The center's mission encompassed archival, pedagogical, and research goals in the field of oral history, with particular emphasis on the history of Indiana and the Midwest, and to address the growing interdisciplinary field of memory studies, of which oral history is one important facet. The Center for the Study of History and Memory continues to build upon its work in the field of oral history while broadening the range of its research projects to address the many ways that people remember, represent, and use the past in public and private life.

Glenn A. Black Laboratory of Archeology

Description: 

Through the efforts of Eli Lilly and Indiana University, the Glenn A. Black Laboratory of Archaeology was dedicated as an independent research facility with the Indiana University community in 1971. In addition to curating Eli Lilly's archaeological collection and the records and collections from Glenn Black's excavations at the Angel Mounds site, the Glenn A. Black Laboratory also curates over 10,000 collections, made up of millions of individual artifacts, representing over four decades of archaeological research in every county in Indiana and at significant sites throughout the Midwest.

Harrodsburg Heritage Days Association

Description: 

The Harrodsburg Heritage Days Association plans the Heritage Days Festival, which is held each year the last weekend in May. The group also generates funds for a community building and playground equipment for Harrodsburg, a community founded in 1837.

Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology

Description: 

IUMAA is Indiana University’s newest museum and draws upon the strengths, rich collections, and connections to community of the former Glenn A. Black Laboratory of Archaeology and the Mathers Museum of World Cultures. These two collections include over 5 million artifacts that span across a broad range of human experiences. The museum is currently closed as we install newly-designed exhibits and learning labs that will enable visitors to learn more about cultural traditions, values, and beliefs of peoples of the world.

Public and handicap parking spots are available at IUMAA, in the lot off the corner of 8th Street and Indiana Avenue, by the museum's lobby doors. More public parking and IU permit parking is available just one block north and west at McCalla School.

SING FOR JOY! Community Choir

Description: 

The SING FOR JOY! Community Choir is in its fifth year of rehearsing and presenting concerts. The mission of the SING FOR JOY! Community Choir is to invite all people of the community, including the disabled and those living with dementia with a care partner, to join a vibrant choir in rehearsing and performing music. Members of the SFJ! include people that have never sung to professional singers – ages range from 28 to 94!

Sounds of Indiana Chorus

Description: 

"Sounds of Indiana" is an a-cappella male Barbershop Chorus that sings and performs popular songs in the unique style called Barbershop, focusing on consonant four-part harmony. We meet Wednesday evenings from 7:00 to 9:00 PM in the Music classroom at Templeton Elementary School to enjoy the fellowship of creating music together and to prepare for numerous public performances during the year. The Sounds of Indiana chorus belongs to the Cardinal District of the national Barbershop Harmony Society. Visitors and new members are always welcome!
