House Calls Service

What is the House Calls Service?

Library staff and volunteers provide free, personalized delivery of materials to Monroe County residents who are unable to visit us for at least six months due to a disability or an extended illness. Items are selected based on patron requests and preferences and are delivered once every four weeks. Live-in caregivers for eligible individuals may also qualify for the service.

How can I request to participate in the House Calls Service?

You can apply online, email housecalls [at] mcpl.info, or call 812-349-3084. You can also print this form (PDF), fill it out, and mail it to:

Monroe County Public Library

Q&A

How much does the service cost?

As with all Library services, the service is free to all who qualify.

When do the deliveries occur?

There are four delivery routes, each going to a different section of Monroe County on Fridays. Depending on where you live, you would be assigned a route number and receive a delivery once every four weeks.

I can make it to the Library on occasion. Do I still qualify?

If you are able to visit a Library branch more often than once per month, you do not qualify for the service.

I can't leave my home due to COVID-19. Do I qualify?

Only if you have a medical condition that puts you at risk for severe illness due to COVID-19. Awaiting test results or receiving a positive test result do not on their own qualify you for this service.
