There are several greats among the Universal Classic Monster films, but this one is my personal favorite. Based on Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley's novel, this isn't even the first of a variety of film adaptations. Bela Lugosi infamously turned down the role of the Monster, paving the way for Boris Karloff's indelible performance (with help from master makeup artist Jack Pierce).
